WLIR New Wave: Dare to Be Different

In 1982, a small radio station in New York, WLIR battles to bring the New Wave to America. The 2017 documentary New Wave: Dare To Be Different is a fun, if faulty, revisionist history of the station and its legacy, airing on Showtime. Dare to Be Different features interviews with WLIR program director Denis McNamara, other members of the station crew and an array of artists including Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Depeche Mode and Erasure’s Vince Clarke and the B-52’s Fred Schneider.
